Basement Roma is a Rome-based non-profit space, led by CURA. since 2012. Conceived as a physical extension of the editorial search of the magazine, over the years Basement Roma had hosted its exhibition program in the basement-based editorial office of CURA. until the opening of its new exhibition premises in a former garage in February 2023.

As self-sustained, independent, and free-thinking space, Basement Roma has organized solo and group exhibitions of emerging and established artists–most of whom presented in Italy for the first time–with the aim to offer a lateral and alternative perspective on new urgencies and new languages of the contemporary artistic production, thus becoming for the artists a significant alternative space for experimentation and artistic expression.

Focusing on the purposes and quests of the new generations of international artists, the new media, digital culture, and new languages, its exhibition program delves into the most current proposals of the contemporary art scene in its most avant-garde and significant expressions, enlarging the boundaries of the local artistic proposal and investigating new exhibition formats.

Basement Roma also challenges the role and the cultural positioning of a liminal, independent and self-sustained art space in Italy.
